Feedback on the bike-sharing system Citybike Vienna.
Automated bicycle rental system works in Vienna since 2003. Since then, the number of stations has been constantly increasing, but the technological component has remained at the beginning of 00s – you can dream about mobile application, QR codes (like in Lviv) – nope. But the price – 1 euro for unlimited travels up to an hour.
Nextbike Lviv - bike sharing not for tourists
Overview of the automatic bicycle rental system Nextbike in Lviv as of April 2018.
Lviv is one of the cities in Ukraine where cycling infrastructure is actively developing. The appearance of the only automatic bicycle rental in Ukraine under the brand of the well-known operator Nextbike was a bold step.
During a visit to Lviv, I noticed a rental station near the Ivan Franko University, and naturally, desired to test this system.
Cycling trip to Khortytsia
I wanted to ride a bike, but not around Dnipropetrovsk, but somewhere far away. I immediately thought about Khortytsia – I was there once, but I didn’t have time to explore this giant island properly. As it turned out, doing this on a bicycle is also not easy.
The distance is just right for me (Google showed 80 kilometers, but you can safely add another 20 to its measurements). The day before the trip I drove with GPS in my phone and measured my speed. I was glad: it turned out to be over 20 km/h, so I should get to Khortytsia in 5 hours.
